Much of nanoscience and many nanotechnologies are concerned with producing new or enhanced materials. Nanomaterials can be constructed by 'top down' techniques, producing very small structures from larger pieces of material, for example by etching to create circuits on the surface of a silicon microchip. They may also be constructed by 'bottom up' techniques, atom by atom or molecule by molecule. One way of doing this is self-assembly, in which the atoms or molecules arrange themselves into a structure due to their natural properties. Crystals grown for the semiconductor industry provide an example of self assembly, as does chemical synthesis of large molecules. A second way is to use tools to move each atom or molecule individually. Although this ‘positional assembly’ offers greater control over construction, it is currently very laborious and not suitable for industrial applications.

Researchers at North Carolina State University have created a substance far stronger and harder than conventional iron, and which retains these properties under extremely high temperatures – opening the door to a wide variety of potential applications, such as engine components that are exposed to high stress and high temperatures.

Iron that is made up of nanoscale crystals is far stronger and harder than its traditional counterpart, but the benefits of this “nano-iron” have been limited by the fact that its nanocrystalline structure breaks down at relatively modest temperatures. But the NC State researchers have developed an iron-zirconium alloy that retains its nanocrystalline structures at temperatures above 1,300 degrees Celsius – approaching the melting point of iron.

Nanotechnology is the science of engineering machines at the molecular level. It has permitted the restructuring of some matter at the atomic level. It will eventually permit the restructuring of any matter at the atomic level. Nobel Prize Winning Physicist Richard Feynman forwarded the earliest theories of modern day Nanotechnology. True Nanotechnology where we can basically make anything out of nothing is predicted to be here anywhere from 5 to 15 years. As R&D progresses exponentially, it will probably be here in 3-4 years. You will be able to use a unit similar in appearance to a microwave to produce any material thing out of thin air.

We see many advertisements on TV nowadays praising coal, nuclear power and even oil (in this case very likely the intention is to say we have oil in the USA, we’re just not allowed to access it), but solar energy is not as apparent in these advertisements despite the advancements highlighted in this column.

اگر خاتمي تاکنون کانديداتوري خود را اعلام نکرده به اين دليل است که مي‌‏خواهد ببيند در مرحله سوم يعني پس از انتخابات، چگونه مي‌‏تواند به کشور و ملت کمک کند. نه تنها ما، بلکه اصولگرايان هم مي‌‏دانند که جامعه، خاتمي را به عنوان نمادي از محبت، دوستي، عشق و صميمت مي‌‏شناسد و اين برگ برنده ما در انتخابات است.

دکتر سعید حجاریان در دیدار با تعدای از اعضای «پويش دعوت از خاتمي» گفت: اگر خاتمي بيايد به حمايت ساده از او اكتفا نمي‌كنيم و براي او و اهداف اصلاحي‌اش فداکاری و ایثار خواهيم كرد. وي افزود: خاتمي مناسبترین نامزد اصلاح‌طلبان است و خوب است بيايد، اما بايد خود به اين نتيجه برسد زيرا در اين صورت انگيزه و توان بيشتري براي پيگيري اهداف تعيين‌شده خواهد داشت و براي پيشبرد اصلاحات پس از پيروزي در انتخابات پايمردي بيشتري خواهد كرد.

چنانکه در معرفی‌نامه «پویش دعوت از خاتمی» آ مده است، اعضای این «پویش» (کمپین) می‌کوشند مستقل از احزاب و گروه‌های سیاسی با انجام فعالیت‌های علنی و غیرعلنی گوناگون و با رساندن صدای جامعه و نخبگان به گوش سید محمد خاتمی، در حد توان محدود خود احتمال نامزدی او را در دهمین انتخابات ریاست جمهوری افزایش ‌دهند. یکی از فعالیت‌های چندگانه این پویش اجتماعی برای هدف مذکور، جمع‌آوری امضا برای طومار دعوت از خاتمی است.

اعضای این پویش از شما دعوت می‌کنند با درج اطلاعات خود در فضای تعیین‌شده زیر، طومار دعوت از خاتمی» را امضا کنید و از دوستان و آشنایان خود بخواهید که به شما بپیوندند. به منظور افزایش اعتبار امضاهای گردآوری‌شده، برای امضای این طومار علاوه بر درج نام و نام خانوادگی، وارد کردن ‌ایمیل، شهر و کدملی نیز ضروری است، اما این اطلاعات به طور عمومی نمایش داده نخواهد شد.
